Welcome to NASTRO
NASTRO, Northumberland Astronomical Society, was founded in January 2000 and has approximately 70 regular members. We are a friendly, active society of professional and amateur astronomers from the North East of England. Our mission is to promote astronomy and science education.
We welcome new members to come and join us at our bi-monthly meetings. As a member you will have access to regular training sessions and lectures as well as our well-established beginners course in astronomy. From time to time we have public observing sessions at our Hauxley Observatory when you can come along and get practical experience of using a telescope for astronomy. If you're not yet a member but interested in finding out more, why not come along to one of our meetings as a visitor? For more details of both forthcoming meetings and public observing sessions, see our Meetings and Events page. Why not try our binocular challenge (also works with telescopes)? |
PLEASE NOTE: Low Hauxley is a dog-free nature reserve. Members and visitors are requested not to bring dogs either to NASTRO meetings or to observing sessions at Low Hauxley. Please see the NWT website for more information

NEXT MEETING
THURSDAY 12 June 2025 @ 19:30
Stellar Endings: How stars die.
Presented by Dr Adrian Janetta FRAS
The stars were once seen as eternal and unchanging. We now know that isn't true; stars live and they die. This presentation will explore the outcomes of stellar evolution. From planetary nebulae and white dwarfs to supernovae, pulsars and black holes. According to some modern theories of gravity - the universe may also contain even more exotic products of star death: Quark stars, white holes and Planck stars. Come and find out what's in store for the Sun and other stars!.
This meeting will be open to both members (free)
as well as non-members (£3 charged at the door)
Next meeting after this Thursday 26 June 2025
