We welcome new members to come and join us in our bi-monthly meetings and observing sessions where you can learn and experience new things. You can take a short course in astronomy,  have access to a wide range of astronomy equipment, participate in or lead sessions or have your own personal tour of the night sky. ​


​The benefits of joining NASTRO:

  • You will be in touch with  other amateur astronomers in the North East.
  • All talks, astronomy courses and lectures are FREE to members so you won't have to pay £3 to attend. We have 23 meetings a year and meet for astronomical events and observing sessions too.
  • We have our own observatory with a research grade telescope which you can have training to use and then have access. See the Meetings and Events page for details.
  • We own a range of telescopes, binoculars, books and videos that you can borrow for free (subject to availability and conditions)
  • You can be involved in all our exciting outreach events throughout the year.
  • You will be supporting your local astronomical society.

To join NASTRO please complete a membership form
​ (available at the meetings or download it here) and hand it to the Treasurer at a meeting. Cheques should be payable to 'Northumberland Astronomical Society' .

Alternatively, you can join online by downloading the membership form, making a BACS payment using the details in the form and emailing a copy of the completed form to [email protected].  If you do pay by BACS, please ensure you put your name in as a reference so we know who the payment is from.

The membership year runs from 1st October to 30th September
